Em - Tuesday July 25

I worked at Adrienne’s house today.  After hearing about the infamous Green Room the night before, I was expecting something spectacular.  My hopes were fulfilled and then some; the room was plastered with a putrid shade of almost-neon green.  When I say plastered, I literally mean plastered.  Whoever had painted the room previously had not put down primer before painting, and, somehow, this resulted in the paint’s unique property of pealing from the wall in some places but being nearly impossible to remove in others.  Thankfully, I was assigned to a different room at the beginning of the day.  I spent the morning painting white trim without the peace of mind that painting tape offers (we were trying to save time).  This turned out to not be as big of a deal as I thought it would be.  As long as you made yourself forget that there was very little room for error and reassured yourself that a line that looks slightly crooked close-up can still look perfectly straight from far away, it was actually a very relaxing and enjoyable experience.  We finished the trim just before lunch (and it looked AMAZING), so I went to check on the Green Room.  Seeing as it was still green, I thought to myself, “how hard can it be?” and jumped in with a scraper tool that I’m sure has some technical name.   It was at this point that I noticed the original painter’s true adoration for green.  The windowsill was green.  The door was green.  The hinges were green.  The trim was blue.  Just kidding, it was green too.  After scraping for a little while, it was thankfully time for lunch.  Once I finished my lunch, I went back up to the Green Room, as, for some reason, I just couldn’t stay away.  After spending 2-3 hours scraping, it was finally in good enough shape to start prepping the room for painting.  We didn’t actually start painting it today; instead, we spent the rest of the time sandpapering and washing the walls, putting down drop cloths, and putting up painter’s tape.  Tomorrow, we look forward to painting the room lavender.  Then, it will perhaps be called the Lavender Room.  But it will always be the Green Room to us.
