Prepping the room for paint

Painters at work

Matt - Monday July 24

This was a great start to a great mission trip. The boys started out by moving the heavy things from inside the house to inside the garage.  Next, we prepped the dining room for painting by moving all the things out of it. Then, we painted the ceiling a nice white color.  After the ceiling had some time to dry we started painting the walls. We had to put 2 coats of paint on the walls to make it look great.

After painting we went and helped some of the girls chip the paint off the “green room” trimings. Later during the night the BBN show was amazing and Cam, Jacob, and Ryan are the perfect people for it.

Sam - Monday July 24

It was an interesting first day for the mission trip today! A woman named Adrienne needed our help this week. She needed our help to organize her house and clean it up a bit. Jacob, Ryan, Matt, and I went into the dinning room to clear out stuff such as the table and boxes filled with supplies. We moved them out and had to paint the room. There was a chandelier in the middle of the room that all the boys kept hitting there heads on but me as a 5 foot 7 inch boy couldn’t reach that high. In the end we ended up having a paint war and had lots of fun. We felt that we made an impact for Adrienne and also ourselves and we still have the week to go.

Rachel - Monday July 24

Today was my first day of my last mission trip! I am so excited to work locally this week even though it is a major change from previous years. We worked on Adrian’s house where we weeded and cut down trees and the difference we made in only an hour was amazing! We cleared everything out in order to put a new fence in her backyard. After that we moved from the yard to the house. Karin and I worked on her front door where we needed to scrap the old caulk and sanded in order to prep for paint. We then painted the door black and when we finished it was time to leave. I am looking forward to making a difference in Adrian’s life and impacting mine in a positive way as well!:)

Grace - Monday July 24

Today was our first day of work. My group went to a women’s house named Adrian.  First, I cleaned the gutters on her roof. It was hard to get all of the dirt out of it while on top of the ladder. Next, I helped weed out all around her yard, which needed a new fence. For pretty much the rest of the time Valerie and I scraped out the old caulk and paint and then put in new caulk. Then, we painted the entire door black and used oil based paint, which was very messy and hard to get off our skin L It was not too hot and was overall and fun faithful day.

Mission in the D

We arrived Sunday for a pizza dinner and church orientation.  The church building is beautiful!  Unfortunately we did not have a good wifi connection until Monday evening.  Hopefully our posts will be more timely the rest of the week.  :)
